Demonstrate
ThumbsUp developes thermal energy storage (TES) solutions for buildings which will be demonstrated in three pilot sites in different EU climates and energy market contexts.
The pilot sites complement each other by covering a range of climates and building scenarios within the EU. They provide a comprehensive picture of how TES technologies can be applied across the EU, addressing different energy needs and contributing to the EU’s sustainable economy goals. They also offer diverse insights into the scalability and replicability of TES solutions in various European contexts.
The broader goal is to innovate at various levels, from modeling to materials, and to enhance heat exchanger solutions to design high-performance TES solutions aligned with EU sustainable economy goals.
Pilot Site - Gothenburg, Sweden
Multi Family Building
The Gothenburg pilot site will test the FractLES system latent thermal energy storage based on phase changing materials (PCM). This technology aims to increase the energy efficiency and grid flexibility of buildings.
Pilot Site - Valladolid, Spain
Single Familiy Building
A 2021-built eco-friendly house with 165 m2 space, A-rated EPC, uses an air-to-water heat pump and PV-roof for efficient heating/cooling and DHW. It includes a 100 kWh sorTES and two 9 kWh FractLES for energy storage, managed by ALGOW BEMS and designed with WECoMP.
Pilot Site - Valladolid, Spain
Multi Family Building
The Valladolid site will focus on demonstrating the use of bio-based phase change materials (PCM) and thermochemical materials (TCM) sorption technology. These materials are designed to be environmentally friendly and are derived from non-hazardous substances.
